5 Favorite Things - June 2018
How is it already the end of June?! I will not think about that Hobby Lobby thinks it is an appropriate time to put out their Thanksgiving and Christmas decor. NOPE. No sir. I LOVE SUMMER. Long live summer and not wishing it away or planning back to school stuff. I will live in the present and be perfectly content this June 29th sitting by the pool writing about my 5 Favorite Things this summer month. So let's get to it!
one: Shea Butter & Coconut Oil Hair Mask
Um hello, we all need a good hair mask in our lives. Saw this at TJ's one day and decided to try it on a whim. Glad I did, it's heavenly! The smell is delicious and it leaves my hair silky smooth I am a little obsessed with it. I have used it 1-2x a week. A little goes a long way so this will last a while. The price is on point so pick this up on your next TJ's run!
two: Beckley Creek Park
This is really for all my Lousiville people out there. Unless you want to travel to visit then, by all means, we will go to Beckley for a run! 🙂 Lou has so many gorgeous parks, it is really a treat to live in a city with such beauty and so many choices. I happen to frequent/live at sometimes of the year one, in particular, known by all CAL runners as Beckley. Louisville has this 100 mile (not yet complete) trail that spans the edge of the city and runs through 5 different parks all under the Parklands of Floyds Fork. Beckley is just one of the parks and where CAL has XC practice during the summer and fall. It is where I have trained for numerous races (there are no other "better" hills to train on in the city IMO), where I have run with the sweetest athletes who have become friends, where I have thought I was dying a slow painful running death on some mountain trails and some days and where I have been stopped dead in my tracks for the sheer beauty of its surroundings. You cannot beat the view. This month I have been running there a lot by myself in the mornings after I teach my classes. There is something so peaceful and therapeutic about being there running, listening to a podcast and having the park almost completely to yourself. Somedays I have done the trials, others I have taken my time to stop at every creek bed entrance and others I have focused solely on conquering the hills ahead of me. Regardless of the day or season, this is my favorite place to run in the city!
three: L'oreal Lash Paradise Mascara
Stop everything you're doing and run to Target to get this mascara. It is hands down my favorite drugstore mascara. I started wearing L'oreal Voluminous mascara when I very first started wearing makeup. My mom would stock up for her, my sister and I and it is a classic favorite that I still enjoy. They have semi-recently (within the past year) come out with Lash Paradise which is AN EXACT DUPE for Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara for a fraction of the price. I have a dear friend who got me Better Than Sex for my 30th birthday so I can confidently say they are pretty much the same. Don't get me wrong I love it and it is a fantastic mascara, but L'oreal found the goods and made their own! So if you are a Too Faced user save yo self some money and go get some L'oreal girl!
four: White Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup Popcorn
Agh, I just realized this is yet another Louisville people favorite. I guess you others will just have to make a trip up here. 🙂 My best friend in the entire world introduced me to this popcorn place a couple years ago that is literally 2 miles away from our house. I love popcorn (hello my ultimate weakness....Salted Caramel popcorn) but this White Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup flavor is another level. I am glad that I have to physically go buy it if I want it and that it is a little pricey, both keep me from gaining 10 pounds and developing diabetes real quick. It is only on my favorites this month because I have purchased it TWICE. One was a bag that was about 3 feet tall and pretty much the biggest bag of popcorn I have ever seen, and two being for a said best friends 30th birthday. I will neither admit nor deny that I could not resist the massive bag sitting my car and dug in before I delivered to the party. It is so irresistible and tempting and heavenly and bad all the same time. You can't just have 1 bite so be warned, people!
five: Poblano and Green Chile Guacamole | FSS
I have eaten my body weight in guac this month since I posted this totally irresistible recipe. Give me a bowl of thin salty chips and guac (I will not deny salsa and queso either) and I am in heaven. I mean who isn't. This is so easy to make and the poblanos and green chiles send it over the edge! This would be a perfect appetizer/snack/total dinner for 4th of July so run (don't walk) to make his for yourself.
What have some of your favorites been this month? I WOULD LOVE TO KNOW!
