How is March already come and gone? As always I am pretty excited/passionate/dramatic about what I am loving (or have been loving) this month. So grab a glass of wine, coffee, tea, water .... whatever - sit back and enjoy.
one: Girl Wash Your Wash by Rachel Hollis
This has by far been my most favorite of the month. I had a sweet friend tell me about this book and the author and now I am convinced that I will meet Rachel Hollis one day and be best friends. It will happen. To say I have a mild girl crush on her is an understatement. I am a big fan of podcasts and I listened to all of hers in 1 month. They are pretty much on nonstop repeat. I am slowly making my way through her Youtube channel and I wish there were a way to thank this beautiful human face to face for her work. I read this book in two days. I actually could have read it in one but I started it on a plane ride and wanted to make sure I had something to read on the way home so made myself stop and slow down. THIS IS A MUST READ! Rachel goes through 20 lies she has believed and wrestled with her whole life (and quite frankly we all do but don't want to admit) and walks you through the messiness of them and how she eventually learned how to pull herself out and fight them. At the end of every chapter, she gives you three tangible thing she did to stop believing and living according to these lies. For example The lie: I'm Not Good Enough, The Lie: I Should Be Further Along by Now, The Lie: I Need to Make Myself Smaller, The Lie: I Will Never Get Past This.......uh HELLO! Rachel literally gets all up in her face, my face, your face and calls out our junk like it is. She calls out the lies from Satan that we have believed and live by that slowly eat away at us. It isn't sugar coated and I love it! My book is covered in pink pen underlines and I have quotes stuck everywhere. I laughed out loud, fist bumped the air and said "PREACH" and cried because so many things struck a deep cord while I was reading. Rachel is doing incredible work and I am calling it now, I will thank her in person one day. You need to go buy this and read this now. You won't be sorry. I will leave you with the last paragraph in case you need more convincing.
Girl, get ahold of your life. Stop medicating, stop hiding out, stop being afraid, stop giving away pieces of yourself, stop syaing you cant do it. Stop the negiative self-talk, stop abusing your body. stop putting it off for tomorrow or Monday or next year. Stop crying about what happened and take control of what happens next. Get up, right now. Rise up from where you've been, scrub away the tears and the pain of yesterday, and start again....Girl, wash your face!
two: Clay Face Mask
I am a fan of skincare and mini pampering session throughout the week. There is always a stock of Epsom salt and/or Lush bath bombs waiting to be used in a nice hot soak. Face masks throughout the week, taking care of these runners feet, etc. You get the drift. I found this per recommendation from a girl I know in town and it hasn't disappointed. It is a little different than any mask I have used before. It comes as clay powder and you mix with apple cider vinegar (so the smell is a little intense...FYI...that is my only negative) so it gives you control on how much or little, thick or thin you want it. A little goes a long way so this baby will last you quite a while.
three: Trader Joe's Greens Powder
This stuff is yum! I have been using for a couple months now and so happy about it. I use it every day - even if I travel. I usually drink it in 2 ways: in my smoothie post run/workout OR by itself mixed with an Emer-Gen-C packet, magnesium powder and sometimes chia seeds. Put in a blender bottle with water and ice and yum! It's berry flavored so it has a tart taste which I love. Doesn't taste fake or overly sweet and I won't go a day without it.
four: Collagen Peptides
You knew this was coming. I have raved about it all month and used in 2 of the 4 recipes I posted this month ( Post-Run Smoothies and Blueberry Protein Bars). Again I have been using this for a while now. Mainly because I saw a lot of people using collagen protein and I had no clue what it was.asked my friends that used it and did some research and thought I would give it a shot. See, I HATE protein powders. HATE THEM! I have used them for so long I am O-V-E-R them. I think they all taste fake, overly sweet, or straight up dirt of you go the vegan route - BLECH! Then this little gem came into my life and I am singing its praises! Tasteless, flavorless, and can be added to anything. It is like a miracle in powder form. I add 1 scoop to my coffee or tea every morning an get an added 11 grams of protein just like that. No taste no nothing - just pure bliss! I have put in oatmeal, cookies, bars, water. Pretty much tried everything. I am sold and a big fan. My hair also is growing like a weed. It grows fast on its own anyways but since I have used this stuff I feel like it grows an inch every day... ok not really, it is just currently all up in my face and everywhere and I need a serious haircut! Get you some of this and be obsessive like me!
five: Lululemon Fast & Free Tights
Ok, the last obsession I promise. These have actually been an obsession for a year and a half now. Now granted, I did work at Lululemon for almost a year and a full convert of their clothing. I am in the gym or on the track 80% of my time awake so my attire is workout clothes. It has been basically since 2006 or so (Kinesiology major in college so yeah....we took gym classes for grades...yes it was awesome). I have worn and tried just about everything out there. Name brands, knockoffs, cheaper options, everything. I would get a pair of pants (just for this example) and they would be worn out before the 8-month mark. Now I said I live in these. I run all the time, I am lifting, I am working in them - they get their share of wear and use and laundry time. I never found anything that fit right, wasn't suffocating me, too tight or wouldn't fall down every 10 minutes (raise your hand you girls who pull their pants up 10 million times during your run... I feel you). ALAS, I have the answer to solve all of these problems. I started working at Lulu when these first were dropped. If you are a fan and know their products then these are basically the cardioversion of the Align Pant (which HELLO, is my second favorite pant) and way more functional. I haven't stopped wearing them since I purchased them a year and a half ago. Here is the rundown: they are high waisted - YES!, they have 2 long functional amazing pockets on the side - my phone says thank you, they are not tight - BLESS THE LULULEMON DESIGN TEAM!, and they will 100% NOT suffocate you throughout the day. They are made with a special fabric called NuLux that is built to withstand the wear and tear of running (um yes please, my thighs will always rub together - team NO thigh gap) and I can personally attest to this seeing as I have 3 pairs that I wear at least 1 -2 times a week and wash and they still look and function like they are brand new. No pulling them up as I run. They are so soft and with no compression, I don't feel like I want to cut myself out of them at the end of the day. They are a thinner material but that is what I love about it. It is supposed to feel like you are not wearing pants and that is pretty much spot on. I know they are at a high price point (but my other fellow trainers and coaches out there, go to your local Lululemon store and ask about the Sweat Collective program 😉 ) but it is worth every penny. This is coming from an ultimate saver and someone who doesn't like to spend money, especially that kind of money on pants, but I will never run in another pair of pants again. It is worth it to buy one pair of expensive well-made quality functional pants that I can wear the heck out of and they last forever than keep buying cheap renditions multiple times a year. Seriously, I will sing this pants praises forever, just trust me. Go try and pair on and see for yourself. You will act just like me 😉
