one: Omni Louisville Spa
Um hello. Omni Spa you are amazing! I am so incredibly blessed to have a best friend that I have LITERALLY known my entire life. We turned 30 this year and 30th birthday parties are hands down the best and most fun birthdays I have had and have been to! All my friend's parties have been so much fun! Justin and my family threw me the most epic surprise party when I turned 30 last December. My friend Lorin has a super sweet husband and surprised her with a girls weekend away for her present. We ended up spending the weekend at the new Omni here in Louisville. It was amazing and so much fun - just what my soul needed. On Saturday we spent the morning at the spa and it was absolutely incredible! A complete full spa experience with robes, saunas, cold cucumber towels, lovely napping beds and the most relaxing aromatherapy massage washing it all down with a glass of champagne at the end. I was so impressed and didn't want to leave. I will definitely be returning! If you are looking for a girls weekend away, a way to spoil yourself or a great gift for someone I highly recommend doing a trip to the Mokara Spa!
two: Whiskey in a Teacup
I AM OBSESSED WITH THIS BOOK!! I will admit I haven't even fully finished it and I love it dearly already! Reese Witherspoon hit the nail on the head on what it is like being a Southern and her book gets me in all the feels! My mom was born in Alabama and grew up in Mississippi, and claims Southern to her core. Now I will fight anyone who thinks Kentucky isn't southern. Maybe not as much as Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia or the Carolinas. Maybe not, but it is 100% NOT NORTHERN! My mom made sure that we grew up with proper Southern roots just like she did. Sweet tea in our baby bottles, etiquette classes (taught by her), how to do big hair and makeup, walking around the house in our high heels and a book on our head and how to host a party like no one's business. This book embodies who I am and what I love. I may not have experienced first hand all of the things she talks about first hand but boy I feel like it. I am proud to be from Kentucky and all the good things about being Southern (I mean the blog is called Fueling a Southern Soul for a reason). So if you are like me, or just a Reese fan, you need to get this book ASAP! And of course, Amazon saves lives so just click here to order it. You're welcome 🙂
three: Bread and Wine
This is my favorite book of all time. Hands down, no question. I am a huge Shauna Niequiest fan and quote her on the regular on my Insta page. I read this book a couple years ago and immediately fell in love and felt like I met my foodie soul mate. Shauna puts into words how I feel about food, hospitality, and life around the table perfectly. It is like she is reading my heart and mind. I am exploding when I read this and constantly saying YES YES YES! I packed it with me for our vacation because I needed all the good beach reads and instantly fell in love again. If you are a fan of food, cooking or just living life with people (that obviously involves food) I highly recommend you reading this! There is a recipe after most chapters with a story of how it came to be or how it is a part of their living. You will feel like Shauna opened her front door and invited you in for a warm bowl of parmesan risotto and a lightly tossed green salad. Pick it up at your library or buy it for yourself here!
Some of my most sacred meals have been eaten out of travel mugs on camping trips or on benches on the street in Europe. Many of them have been at our own table or around our coffee table, leaning back against the couch. They've been high good and low food, fresh and frozen, extravagant and right out of the pizza box. It's about the table, and about all the other places we find ourselevs eating. It's about a spirit or quality of living that rises up when we offer one another life itself, in the form of dinner or soup or breakfast, or bread and wine. - Shauna Niequist, Bread and Wine
four: Phocus Caffeinated Sparkling Water
September was crazy. Crazy with so many good things but jammed packed. We traveled every weekend and the weeks were intensely buckled down getting work done so we could be gone on the weekends. I am not a robot. I need time alone and in quiet to reboot and refresh. When things get busy and crazy, I can put my head down and go but only for so long. Then I need to hide away from the world and re-coop for a bit. There is a part of me that wishes I could just be go-go-go all the time and the energy/willpower of a 3-year-old, but I am not created that way and that is ok. I know when and how to push when needed but I also know when to step back and reenergize to that I can keep going for the long haul. September was very much a "put your head down and go" during the work weeks and towards the end, I was growing a bit weary. I start needing "help" and by help, I mean caffeine throughout multiple parts of the day. Coffee has not been tasting good or settling on my stomach for quite some time now, which honestly makes me sad. The idea sounds good but then I drink it and immediately go make tea or grab a Phocus. I am always talking about these and posting about them on my Insta. I have talked about them before on my Favorites but I am singing their praises again because they help get me through afternoon slumps, getting energized for my runs and helping me wake up when I have to train others early in the morning. I do not feel jittery but actually feel awake and rested -- what concept haha! I always have a pack in the fridge outside so I can grab it as I get in my car. If you're a sparkling water fan you have to try these. They aren't crazy carbonated, which I prefer, and are sold at most local grocer's here and now at Kroger! But if all those fail or you're out of town, duh, Amazon saves lives always 😉
Thank you to Phocus for loading me up with all the flavors this month! I am so thankful and enjoy it every time I crack one open!
five: Sea Pines Resort - Hilton Head Island
This crazy month ended with a week vacation in HHI for Justin and I and could not have been better timing! We have been planning on going for almost a year now so the excitement was real! We hadn't been in a couple years but as soon as we pulled in it felt like we never left. Our time was filled at the beach, pool, riding bikes, tennis, golf, reading lots of books, eating the most incredible food and watching New Girl episodes at night. It was truly the best time away with my favorite person in the world and came at a time where it was needed.
What were your favorites this month? Let me know in the comments below! Now I can officially put out my mums and pumpkins since it is October 😉
