How is it July already? Only 5 months until 2020 and the holiday season and I am not ready! June flew by and I’m very sad about it.
Summer is my most favorite season of all. It can be “cold” on Thanksgiving and Christmas but if it could promptly warm back up and stay summer all year round my soul would be so happy! I love the warmth on my skin, long sunshiny days (except I am very tired of the amount of rain we have received thus far in June), sitting on the back porch, BBQ’s with friends, Moscow mules and a cold glass of Prosecco, the lake and pool, vacations, and my list could go on forever.
Life just in general has more of a laid back and happy feel and I am soaking up every last drop these next 2 months. So let's chat and catch up about June. Grab a cold beverage and let's talk through our Wine Down Wednesday.
Painting the Porch
Guys. After a full year, our porch is finally complete! And by complete, of course I mean we have a couple of things we still need to tie up and add so maybe 98% complete - but the hard part is done!
If you have been following for a while, we decided last year to add on a screened in porch to our house and it turned into a much bigger and longer project than anticipated (you can read about it here). We had to wait through the winter to let the wood cure before staining, and after
Oh man……was I wrong.
I should have known, I have done this twice before. It took us almost 3 weeks to get it done but boy do we love it! We practically live out here and the feeling of it being competed is a huge weight off my shoulders. I am currently drinking my tea, in my robe, on the porch writing this post and it makes me so happy! 🙂
But PSA - just hire someone to paint a deck for you if you need. It will be worth your time 🙂
Parents 40th Anniversary
On June 2nd, my parents celebrated 40 years of marriage! So unbelievable and special. Justin and I had the honor of being able to take them out to the new Jeff Ruby’s in Lexington to celebrate and it was a night we all will never forget. We ate from a stunning and decadent charcuterie board, steaks that melted in your mouth, rack of lamb, vegetables, a sinful chocolate cake, and washed it all down with wine. We capped off the night with Irish coffees and listened to
I am beyond grateful to have parents who still love each other so deeply and are each other's best friends to be able to celebrate 40 years of God’s goodness! It was such a fun (and yummy) night!
Kelly’s Bachelorette Trip
My sister is getting married this fall and we took full advantage of the hot summer months to pack her up and take a car full of girls down to Charleston, SC for her Bachelorette party. I hadn’t been to Charleston in a very long time and it was so good to be back and soak in all it’s southern charm. We went to the beach, saw what the King Street scene was all about, strolled through the market, bought some pralines, and enjoyed a delicious last dinner at Stars.
We also stayed in the cutest Air BnB in Mount Pleasant. If you’re heading that way anytime soon, definitely check it out!
Molly's Pageant - Miss USI
I turned around after Kelly’s trip and headed down to Orlando with my mother-in-law to watch and support my sister-in-law, Molly, in the Miss U.S. International Pageant. She placed Top 16 and received the spirit award and was an absolutely stunning dream! I was so proud of her and what she accomplished and how she carried herself.
We were literally about 8 minutes away from Disney and we were all dying not being there until I had a friend tell me about Disney Springs.
Y’all, have you been to Disney Springs?!
I had heard of it but didn’t know what it was and it was so perfect for us!
It is a huge and beautiful outdoor shopping and dining place, and it is totally free! There aren’t characters walking around, but we got our fix of Disney in for not actually being able to spend a day at the park. We ended up going twice - and we ate at the best Cuban restaurant on the way home. They had this appetizer that blew my socks off that I am going to be recipe testing this week to see if I can recreate for you on the blog because it was that good! So be on the lookout.
Also, now I really really really want to go to Disney! 🙂
Fav Foods & Kitchen Messes
My mom gave us a huge mason jar of homemade granola last week that Justin and I have been demolishing and craving now. All I want is a big bowl of greek yogurt, fresh berries, flax & chia seeds and her homemade granola on top. I used to eat this daily for years but haven’t done so in a while. I actually have a granola recipe on the blog that I am going to pull up and make this week since we are on our last serving and it’s very sad.
Here is just a quick peek into what a filming day looks like around here. I like to batch work and film 4-5 recipes once a month all in one day. It’s ambitious depending on what I have planned for each recipe, but it makes the rest of the month so much easier not having to pull everything out all the time.
My brother recommended these awesome lights to me 2 years ago and they have been
If you’re looking for something similar and don’t want to spend an arm and a leg on lighting equipment these are a must! They pack up nicely to not take up a lot of ro
Well, that’s it for this June edition of Wine Down Wednesday. I feel like June was way busier than my insane spring and I am not sure how. I am looking forward to a holiday week and celebrating Justin and I’s 7th wedding anniversary this weekend!!
Tell me below how your June went and some of your favs. Be on the lookout Monday for a delicious summer appetizer that will blow your socks off!
