Dark Chocolate Chunk Whole Wheat Oatmeal Cookies

  • Yield: 34 cookies 1x

My husband and I came up with Dark Chocolate Chunk Whole Wheat Oatmeal Cookies when we were dating and have consumed hundreds of them since. Chewy oatmeal cookies packed with dark chocolate chunks and tart cranberries will have you instantly swooning.

  • 1/2 Cup Butter, at room temperature
  • 1/2 Cup Brown Sugar
  • 1/2 Cup Sugar
  • 1 Egg + 1 Egg Yolk
  • 3/4 Teaspoon Salt
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Baking Powder
  • 1 Teaspoon Baking Soda
  • 1 Teaspoon Cinnamon
  • 2 Tablespoon Vanilla
  • 2 Cups Old Fashion Oats
  • 3/4 Cup Whole Wheat Flour
  • 3/4 Cup Dark Chocolate Chunks
  • 3/4 Cup Dried Cranberries

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. In a bowl combine butter and both sugars. Mix on medium speed until creamed together for 3-4 minutes.
  3. Add egg + egg yolk and beat together until creamy and well blended.
  4. Add the rest of the ingredients (except chocolate and cranberries) and mix until all incorporated.
  5. Add dark chocolate and cranberries and mix until they are distributed evenly.
  6. Scoop onto cookies sheet and bake for 10-11 minutes. Let cool on the pan for 5-10 minutes before serving (if you can wait that long!).
  7. Enjoy!

  1. This dough does not require to be chilled before, you can bake right away. Of course, you can if you would like. Just scoop into balls on a cookie sheet and place in the refrigerator for 30 minutes - 1 hours and then bake as directed.
  2. These cookies also freeze beautifully. If freezing, scoop out onto a cookies sheet like you were going to bake them. Stick the sheet in the freezer and freeze for 30 minutes-1 hour until the cookie dough balls are frozen. Transfer balls into a freezer safe ziplock bag and store for up to 4 months. To bake, place frozen cookie dough balls on a cookie sheet and bake at 350 for 11-12 minutes.
