Description

You are going to love this classic southern dessert - bourbon apple crisp! Made with unpeeled sliced granny smith apples, both brown and white sugar, warm spices, and a good chug of Kentucky Bourbon. Topped with a simple crunchy oat topping, it is oven-baked for 45 minutes. This has all the cozy flavor of fall and is a sweet treat I know you will love!

Ingredients

Scale

Apple Filling:

  • 6 Large Granny Smith Apples - peeled, cored and thinly sliced
  • 1/4 Cup Bourbon*
  • 1/4 Cup Sugar
  • 1/4 Cup Brown Sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon Flour
  • 1 Teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • 1 Teaspoon Cinnamon
  • 1/4 Teaspoon Nutmeg
  • 1/4 Teaspoon Salt
  • Juice from 1/2 Lemon

Oat Topping:

  • 1/2 Cup Old-Fashioned Oats
  • 1/2 Cup Flour
  • 1/4 Cup Brown Sugar
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Cinnamon
  • 1/4 Teaspoon Salt
  • 4 Tablespoons Butter - cold and cut into small cubes

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F. Lightly grease a 9x9-inch baking dish.
  2.  In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, bourbon, granulated sugar, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and vanilla extract. Toss until the apples are evenly coated.
  3. Pour the apple mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread it out evenly.
  4. In a separate bowl, combine the oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Mix well.
  5. Add the cold, cubed butter to the oat mixture. Use a pastry cutter, fork, or your fingers to work the butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs
  6. Evenly sprinkle the oat topping over the apple filling in the baking dish.
  7. Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apple filling is bubbly.
  8. Let the crisp cool slightly before serving. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.
