Apple Filling:
- 6 Large Granny Smith Apples - peeled, cored and thinly sliced
- 1/4 Cup Bourbon*
- 1/4 Cup Sugar
- 1/4 Cup Brown Sugar
- 1 Tablespoon Flour
- 1 Teaspoon Vanilla Extract
- 1 Teaspoon Cinnamon
- 1/4 Teaspoon Nutmeg
- 1/4 Teaspoon Salt
- Juice from 1/2 Lemon
Oat Topping:
- 1/2 Cup Old-Fashioned Oats
- 1/2 Cup Flour
- 1/4 Cup Brown Sugar
- 1/2 Teaspoon Cinnamon
- 1/4 Teaspoon Salt
- 4 Tablespoons Butter - cold and cut into small cubes
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F. Lightly grease a 9x9-inch baking dish.
- In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, bourbon, granulated sugar, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and vanilla extract. Toss until the apples are evenly coated.
- Pour the apple mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread it out evenly.
- In a separate bowl, combine the oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Mix well.
- Add the cold, cubed butter to the oat mixture. Use a pastry cutter, fork, or your fingers to work the butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs
- Evenly sprinkle the oat topping over the apple filling in the baking dish.
- Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apple filling is bubbly.
- Let the crisp cool slightly before serving. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.
