Ingredients
Scale
- 1 Pound Ground Beef
- 1/2 Onion - diced
- 2 Cloves Garlic - minced
- 1 Tablespoon Flour
- 1 Tablespoon Butter
- 1 Cup Whole Milk
- 1 Cup Beef Broth
- 3/4 Teaspoon Salt
- 1/2 Teaspoon Parsley
- 1/2 Teaspoo Thyme
- 1/4 Teaspoon Pepper
- 1/4 Teaspoon White Pepper
- 2 Pounds Russet Potatoes - peeled and small diced
- 8 Ounces Cheddar Cheese - shredded
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Grease a 9x13 baking dish with cooking spray.
- In a large pot, add ground beef over medium heat. Cook for 5-7 minutes breaking up into small pieces and stirring while cooking.
- Add in onion and garlic and cook for another 5-10 minutes, or until the ground beef is cooked all the way through and no longer pink.
- While the meat is cooking, peel and dice potatoes into small cubes. Place them in a large bowl or sink of ice-cold water to prevent them from browning as you dice and work.
- Once the beef is cooked, drain off as much of the liquid fat as you can. Add in the flour and butter. Stir and cook for 1-2 minutes.
- Turn the heat to medium-low. Slowly whisk in the milk. Stir until starting to thicken. Add in broth and whisk together.
- Add in spices and let simmer for 5-10 minutes.
- Drain the curve potatoes and pat dry. Spread evenly across the bottom of the greased baking dish.
- Pour the meat mixture on top.
- Sprinkle the cheese evenly over the top. Cover with foil.
- Bake for 50 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for another 10 minutes.
- Remove and let cool for 10 minutes before serving.
Notes
- To store leftovers: place in an airtight container or tightly wrap the baking dish with plastic wrap or aluminum foil. Store in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days.
