Boozy Bourbon Bacon Pecan Pie

This twist on a Southern pecan pie features a good chug of Kentucky bourbon, crispy bacon bits, and toasted pecans for a perfectly sweet and salty dessert. With a flaky homemade pie crust as its base, this indulgent pie is oven-baked for 40 minutes until set in the middle, creating a balance of flavors that's irresistible. Recipe yield 8 slices.

Southern Dessert Classics

As the daughter of a true Southern cook from Mississippi, our holiday tables are always filled with the classic desserts like pumpkin pie and pecan pie. But also being from Kentucky, we can forget about adding a touch (or chug) of our water - aka bourbon, to some holiday desserts!

My mom usually always pours a little bourbon in her pecan pie and it's so delicious! it's just the right amount to give it an extra special taste. Today I am putting my spin on her recipe and adding salty crispy bacon bits.

It's the same easy base you mix together in one bowl, pour into a blind-baked pie crust, and bake in the oven at 350 for 40 minutes (or until the middle doesn't jiggle anymore). You can serve this warm, room temp, or even cold with a healthy dollop of homemade whipped cream. Bless it!

Honestly, while testing this recipe, my favorite way to enjoy it was cold the next day straight out of the pie plate with a cup of coffee. Oh yum! We love the holidays!

Welcome to My Kitchen, Let's Make Pie!

‼️Before you begin, we must prep our pie crust by blind baking it. While you most certainly can use a store-bought crust, I highly recommend you make your own - the extra effort is so beyond worth it. And. my recipe makes a double crust so you can make 2 of these pies while you're at it if you want!

Make the pie crust according to the directions in the linked recipe.

Place it on a pie plate and crimp the edges.

Place a piece of parchment paper over top and pour in the baking beans - spreading to the edge. Bake at 375 for 25 minutes. Remove, let cool for 5 minutes then carefully remove the beans.

Add all of the filling ingredients (except the pecans and bacon) into a large bowl.

Whisk well.
Add in pecans and bacon to a pie filling in a bowl.
Add in the pecans and bacon bits and give it one more good stir.

Pour into the partially baked pie crust and put back into the oven at 350 for 40 minutes - checking it around 35 minutes, and remove when the middle is just set. Let cool for 30 minutes before serving.

Like I said above, you can serve this a variety of different ways. Let this bourbon pecan pie cool and set for at least 30 minutes before slicing into it. Letting it set is crucial to being able to cut a slice out. You can leave it on the counter until it's completely cooled and serve it at room temp, or even serve it the next day after chilling. Whatever your heart desires!

Filling

  • 1 Cup Corn Syrup
  • ½ Cup Brown  Sugar
  • ¼ Cup Bourbon
  • 3 Eggs
  • 2 Tablespoons Melted Butter
  • 1 Tablespoon Cornmeal
  • 1 Teaspoon Vanilla
  • ¼ Teaspoon Salt
  • 1 ½ Cup Pecans
  • 6 Slice of Bacon - cooked until crispy and chopped into bits


Instructions

Blind Bake Pie Crust

  1. If you are making a homemade pie crust or using store-bought, it needs to be blind-baked beforehand.
  2. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
  3. Place wax or parchment paper over the pie crust on the pie plate. Pour in baking beans or pie weights and evenly distribute around the shell.
  4. Place in the oven for 25 minutes.
  5. Remove from the oven and let cool for 10 minutes.
  6. Pick up the edges of the wax or parchment paper and pour the beans into a mason jar. Proceed with the recipe as directed.

Pie Filling

  1. Lower the oven temperature to 350 degrees.
  2. Combine all the ingredients except for pecans and bacon in a large bowl and whisk together until well mixed.
  3. Add the pecans and bacon to the mixture and stir well until coated.
  4. Pour the filling over the blind-baked pie crust.
  5. Place in the oven for 40 minutes. Check at 35 minutes. Remove immediately after the center does not jiggle anymore.
  6. Let cool for 10 minutes. Enjoy with homemade whipped cream.

Notes

  • Leftovers can be kept covered in the fridge for 4-6 days.

To Freeze and Make Ahead of Time

  1. Follow the above recipe and instructions completely. Once the pie is baked, allow it to cool completely. Once cooled, wrap tightly in plastic wrap a couple of times and then with foil making sure it is airtight. Store in the freezer for up to 6 months.
  2. To eat, remove from the freezer and place in the fridge for 24 hours to thaw. Set out on the counter 1-2 hours prior to when needed to enjoy at room temp or enjoy cold straight from the fridge.
