I truly think sometimes that I could have a site that was just solely based on southern appetizer recipes and dips and spreads. And I am not mad about it. Have Justin and I eaten spinach & artichoke dip in a bread bowl for dinner before? Yes.

Am I ashamed? Not in the slightest! 😉 I fully endorse a dip-only lazy dinner on the back porch during a summer happy hour (with a chilled glass of sparkling rose in hand, too, of course!)

But if you aren't going to eat a dip for dinner, whipped feta with honey and pistachios is the perfect cold dip recipe to serve for anyone coming over to your home. From growing up in a family that owns a catering business and learning how to throw parties at a very young age, I know the importance of having a great dip out for your guests (accompanied by a glass of wine) as soon as they walk in the door.

Something quick and easy to toss together (like 2-minute cream cheese and pepper jelly dip) is usually my personal go-to. This recipe is at the top of "real life, I am having friends over and need an easy dip to serve" list I grab from. Let me show you how I like to make it in my own home.

A note before starting

⭐️ While I was recipe testing, I found it best to use feta in the block form and not the crumbles. Using the block will result in a smoother and creamier dip. The crumbles have a coating around them of an anti-caking agent, similar to shredded cheese, which isn't the best for this dip. You usually can find a block of feta (note, it's usually packed in a container with liquid) in the specialty cheese section of your deli.

⭐️ Set the feta and cream cheese out on the counter for about 30 minutes before making this so they can come to room temperature. Now I have totally been lazy more times than not and taken straight from the fridge to the food processor, and it's fine - but having it at room temp does make it easier to blend together and a smoother and creamier texture with no little lumps. If you think ahead better than I, go ahead and lay them out for a bit. 😉

STEP TWO: Blend until completely smooth and creamy. A minute or so.

STEP THREE: Place whipped feta into a shallow bowl and drizzle generously with honey on top. Top with more fresh thyme (just for looks TBH) and pistachios.

While technically you can save the leftovers, I find it best to eat them fresh right away. Because of the honey, it can get kinda gross and messy if trying to save. If you want to prep ahead of time, make the dip and keep it stored in an airtight container in the fridge. When ready to serve, place in a shallow bowl, then top with honey and the nuts to maximize the freshness and presentation of the dip.

  1. Served at my book club. Huge success. Added sliced apples for dipping as well as a cranberry nut cracker. Thanks for the recipe. I’ll be making this again for sure. I wish I could add a pic of it to this review.
