Homemade whipped cream is incredibly easy to make, using just 2 ingredients: powdered sugar and heavy cream. Whisked together in an ice-cold bowl with a stand mixer, it takes only 5 minutes to create a light and fluffy treat that's perfect for a variety of desserts and sweet treats. It's way better than store-bought, you'll never go back!

    Heather's Notes

As a true Southern cook, I believe in making almost everything from scratch. I think it tastes so much better and often times it's not that much more effort. Recipes like pie crust and buttermilk biscuits are ALWAYS meant to be made homemade and you can taste the difference!

Whipped cream is no different. I truly don't understand why anyone would buy the store-bought stuff when this is literally just 2 ingredients, takes 5 minutes, and SO MUCH BETTER TASTING! This is one of the first things I learned how to make from my mom and can make this in my sleep. Honestly, it's what I like to call a "no-recipe recipe".....pour a little heavy cream into a stand mixer with the whisk attachment. Turn on high for 2 minutes. Add a couple of scoops of powdered sugar. Whisk on high again. Taste test. Add more sugar if needed. Give it one more whisk until soft peaks form and walaa - you're done!

Once you've made this a couple of times you'll be able to make by taste too!

Enjoy huge scoops of this on strawberry shortcake biscuits, pumpkin pie, or even a dollop in your morning coffee for an extra treat to get your day started (this is my favorite way to eat it)!

PS - make sure to lick the beaters when you're done because that is the best!

    Welcome to my kitchen!

⭐️Before you start! ⭐️ Place your metal bowl and whisk in the freezer for 30-60 minutes before making this recipe. After making this recipe for over half my life, my mom taught me that an ice-cold bowl is the best way to make whipped cream. The cold temp helps the cream whip up into soft peaks quickly and this recipe turns out way better than using a room temp bowl.

pouring cream in a stand mixer bowl.
STEP 1: When ready to make, take the bowl and whisk out of the freezer and attach it to your stand mixer. Pour in whipping cream...

STEP 2: Add 1 cup of powdered sugar...
a tea towel draped over a stand mixer.
...cover with a tea towel and whisk on high for 30 seconds.

Scrape the sides of the bowl, add the last cup of powdered sugar, place the tea towel back on, and whisk on high for 1-2 more minutes or until soft but firm peaks are formed.

STEP 3: Scrape down the sides and wrap the top in plastic wrap. Store in the refrigerator until ready to serve.

PRO TIP: using a tea towel to cover your bowl while whisking will help with 2 things: not flinging powdered sugar and cream all over the place. You need to whip this on HIGH speed to get lots of air into the cream to start to thicken and form the peaks. Low or medium speed will not work. And because you mix it on high speed, cream flies all over the place while liquid and the powder sugar explode everywhere - not that I have done that before..... 😉 Using a tea towel will prevent lots of messes!

This can last in the fridge for up to a week. Just keep it in an airtight container and enjoy it as needed. It will lose its softness after a day or 2 but will still taste good. If you want to make this look "fancy" spoon it into a piping bag with a Wilton 1M piping tip and pipe pretty dollops ontop of whatever it is!
