Made without sour cream or mayonnaise, this lightened-up recipe for homemade ranch dip combines Greek yogurt, fresh dill, and fresh lemon juice with select seasonings. It’s quick to make in one bowl and can be whisked together by hand in 10 minutes. It’s a cold dip that’s great for dipping cut veggies, chips, chicken wings, and even a slice of pizza. It’s one of my go-to quick and easy dips for hosting!

greek yogurt ranch in a bowl on a cutting board with spices and herbs and a knife with cute lemons all around it.

Do you remember the rectangle pizza in elementary school with the cubed pepperoni's?! I can still taste it if I think about it. And I can also VIVIDLY remember a lot of people dipping it in ranch dip. I thought that was so gross! But to each his own.

Whether you love dipping your pizza in ranch or using it for chicken tender bites and veggies instead - ranch is arguably the most popular salad dressing and appetizer dip. (ps - to me, honey mustard is the superior dipping sauce and salad dressing 😉 but to each their own!). And as a Southern cook, my mom taught me how to make a bunch of salad dressings from scratch - making them taste so much better!

But you know what, we are going to switch some things up! Instead of using mayo, sour cream, and a packet of seasoning - we are going to use full-fat Greek yogurt and a handful of fresh herbs for a Greek yogurt ranch dip! Toss together in a bowl with some lemon juice and boom - you are done!

Why would I do this you ask? Well, this can be used not only as a salad dressing, but it makes an incredible homemade dip and spread recipe too perfect for crackers and veggies at any dinner party. You know I love a dinner party with a good dip - we have eaten our weight in cold spinach and artichoke dip and Southern-style pimento cheese dip around here! And this ranch dip with dill is a crowd pleaser always!

    Key Ingredient Notes

    • Greek Yogurt - we are going to make this ranch dip with out sour cream or mayo, which both contain fat for flavor, so we want to make sure to use full-fat plain Greek yogurt here. The fat gives this more flavor as opposed to the non-fat kind.
    • Milk - I recommend using full-fat milk as well. This will help thin out the dressing but also add to the flavor profile. Make sure you see below for a recipe tip regarding how much to use.
    • Fresh herbs - dill, parsley, chives.
    • Spices - onion powder, onion flakes, garlic powder, salt, and the secret ingredients...White Pepper.
    • Lemon Juice

    How to Make

chopping herbs on a cutting board.
Finely chop your fresh herbs with a sharp knife.
greek yogurt and herbs in a bowl along with milk and spices next to it on a cutting board.
To a large bowl, add the Greek yogurt, herbs, spices, and milk.
greek yogurt, fresh herbs, and minced garlic in a clear bowl on a white table
Gently whisk everything together until it is all combined well. Enjoy immediately or place covered in the fridge to chill until needed.

RECIPE TIP - when recipe testing and making this myself on numerous occasions, I have discovered that different brands of Greek yogurts are thicker than others. Because of that, I recommend starting with using 1-2 tablespoons of milk to thin out and use more if needed. I have used as much as 6 tablespoons before. But it is easier to add more to your desired dipping consistency than add too much right away. You may want a thinner version too if using for a salad dressing as opposed to a dip and spread recipe.

This yields a little more than a cup of dip but enough for about 8-10 depending on how you are enjoying it. Serve this homemade ranch dip for veggies also with your favorite crackers and keep the leftovers covered airtight in the fridge for up to a week.
