The thing I love most about southern recipes, besides sharing them with others, is the stories behind them. Where they come from. Who gave you the recipe. The memory that pops up when you make it. So on and so forth. We all have those kinds of recipes and it just makes my heart sing!
I love so much! And it's why I love sharing recipes my mom has passed down to me like fluffy buttermilk biscuits, or her homemade pie crust that is perfect for her apple pie. This whole blog is about sharing my love for food in hopes it helps you welcome people into your own home to love them around the table with these recipes.
We have some sweet dear friends who live in Kansas so we don't get to see them as often as we would like, but anytime we have gone to their home to visit, Kelsey always makes this cream cheese dip for fruit as a snack and special treat.
It's requested and anticipated every time and I have been lucky enough to be grandfathered into the tradition when I married Justin. It also just isn't called apple dip - Justin and Brent, her husband, like to say "apper dip" in an accent that is not easily translated via typing. 😂
I asked Kelsey if I could share her cream cheese dip for apples recipe and she graciously said yes. So this is her recipe that we love to enjoy and think about them when we make it. We all love homemade dips and spreads around here at FSS so it fits right on in! It is sweet and creamy, only needs 1 bowl, 4 pantry and fridge staple ingredients like softened cream cheese and brown sugar, a hand mixer and it is ready to eat in less than 10 minutes! It makes for the perfect afternoon snack along with lemon fruit dip with cream cheese, or is an easy appetizer idea for hosting for dinner parties, wedding, or baby showers.
Key Ingredient Notes
Just 4 pantry and fridge staple ingredients are needed for this brown sugar cream cheese dip recipe:
- Cream Cheese - recommended to use full fat for this recipe for the best flavor.
- Brown Sugar
- Sugar
- Vanilla Bean Paste* - I always use Nielson Massey Vanilla Bean paste in all my baking recipes. It yields such a much richer vanilla flavor in my opinion. You can use regular vanilla extract as well.
Step by Step on How to Make
PRO TIP: leave your cream cheese on the kitchen counter for at least 30 minutes before starting this recipe. Softened cream cheese is WAY easier to whip up and make smooth without any clumps. Just speaking from dozens of times I have been too impatient or forgot and served a whipped cream cheese dip with small clumps in it because I couldn't beat them out - SMH - travesty I know! 🤦♀️
PRO TIP: This cordless Kitchen Aide hand mixer is my new FAVORITE kitchen appliance! Say bye bye to a messy cord that gets in the way always - this is what hand mixer dreams are made of - HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! *affiliate link*
I love making this recipe in the fall when apples are getting into their peak season. Honeycrisps are my personal favorite, but any of your favorite apple varieties would work totally fine. But you know, this can be for any time of year and not just the fall. Consider these delicious dipping vessels for a year around treat!
- ginger snaps
- animal crackers
- graham crackers
- vanilla wafers
- honey pretzel twists
- other fruits such as bananas, strawberries, grapes, pineapples
There are no rules! Use anything you want!
