These Cheesy Green Onion Sausage Balls made with Kodiak Cakes are the perfect appetizer to bring to a brunch or any party. With bold flavors your friends will be begging you for more!

It is always a great idea to have a handful of tried and true appetizer recipes. For when you host friends over for a dinner party, to bring to a tailgate, and definitely to contribute during the holidays. You will love how easy and delicious these cheesy sausage balls are and can definitely add them to your rotation!

Sausage Balls are party lifesavers in and of themselves. Minimal ingredients, super easy, makes a ton and can be served hot, room temp or cold. Literally a win-win on all levels.

Today we are using Kodiak Cakes in this recipe so let me show you how it all comes together.

PS: Even better is this a one-bowl recipe, which obviously equal fewer dishes and can I get an amen for that!

Step 1: Start by adding all of your ingredients besides the milk into a large bowl.

Pro tip - wear disposable gloves for this next part and all the mixing - you'll thank me 🙂

    ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

"These were great - you couldn't tell any compromises were made with the Kodiak cake flour. Also liked the additional of white pepper, green onion and garlic to give it a more rounded flavor. Well done."

Step 2: Now get in there and start mixing together with your hands. Break the sausage up and make sure to start to evenly distribute between the cheese, onions and Kodiak Cakes All-Purpose Mix. Once roughly combined, add in the milk and continue to combine until no dry spots are left and the whole mix is sticking together.

Step 3: Scoop out into 1" balls with either your hands or a cookies scoop.

Step 4: Place in the oven and wait on the cheesy goodness to bake.

You can serve these right away or plate them on a platter and take with you to a party. They serve beautifully at room temp. Or you can be like Justin and pop them by the handfuls straight out of the fridge.

Can I Make Ahead Of Time?

Absolutely! I love when I can prep things in advance!

The easiest way is to fully bake the sausage balls. Let cool and then store in an airtight freezer-safe container and place in the freezer for 6-9 months.

To thaw - place in the fridge for 24 hours to thaw. They are ready to eat once thawed because they have already been cooked. You can pop them in the oven (350 for 5-10 minutes - just until warmed) if you would like them warmed OR let them come to room temp. Whatever you prefer.

These can also be made up until the point of baking the sausage balls. Mix together and form into balls according to the directions below. Place all of the sausage balls on a baking tray and place them in the freezer for 30 minutes. This will help freeze the outside so that when you place them in your airtight freezer-safe container, they will not stick to each other.

Store in the freezer for 6-9 months.

Once ready to prepare bake from frozen at 350 for 30-40 minutes. You want to make sure they are cooked fully through so check at 30 minutes to see where they are. If more time is needed, cook for another 10 minutes.

Alternatively, you can place the frozen unbaked sausage balls in the fridge for 24 hours to let thaw and bake according to the directions below.

What If I Do Not Have Kodiak Cake All-Purpose Mix At Home?

    No problem!

Just use Bisquick or your prefered premade baking mix.

These are packed full of flavor and are literally irresistible. Everyone will go nuts over them and you will go home empty-handed. They are perfect for a brunch, to bring along to tailgate (hello football and Keeneland season) and to go to any Halloween, Thanksgiving, or Christmas party.

    Description

These Cheesy Green Onion Sausage Balls made with Kodiak Cakes are the perfect appetizer to bring to a brunch or any party. With bold flavors your friends will be begging you for more!

    Ingredients

    Scale
    • 1 Pound Ground Pork Sausage
    • 12 Ounce Bag of Cheddar Cheese (1 bag )*
    • 1 ½ Cups Kodiak Cakes All Purpose Baking Mix
    • ¾ Teaspoon White Pepper
    • 1 Teaspoon Garlic Powder
    • 1 Bunch of Green Onions
    • ½ Cup Milk +

    Instructions

    1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
    2. Finely slice green onions.
    3. In a large bowl add in all ingredients except milk. Using your hands (I like to wear gloves), mix all ingredients thoroughly. It will take a couple of minutes. Really massage all ingredients together.
    4. Add in milk and mix again until all the ingredients form together in a dough. You may need a splash more of milk if the mixture is still dry and baking mix is still not combined.
    5. Either using your hands or a cookie scoop, form balls and place in a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
    6. Place in the oven and bake for 25 minutes
    7. Remove from the oven and let cool. Enjoy!

    Notes

    1. Sausage Balls will keep in the fridge for up to a week.
    2. You can also freeze the balls once cooked, store in a freezer safe ziplock bag and store for 6-9 months. To thaw either allow to defrost in the fridge for 2 days or place in a 350-degree oven for 10 minutes until warmed.
    3. You may use any bag of cheese you have or desire - doesn't have to be cheddar.
